If you’re constantly tired, struggling with brain fog, nausea, or respiratory issues & doctors can’t provide clear answers, your indoor environment could be the missing link. These symptoms are often associated with CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), a condition triggered by exposure to mould & mycotoxins.
MYKES is New Zealand’s first specialist in airborne mycotoxin detection, going beyond standard mould testing to uncover the invisible, toxic chemicals released by mould and fungi, especially in homes and buildings affected by moisture or water damage.
We offer specialised mould and asbestos surveys to ensure safer, healthier environments.
If you can see mould, you have mould -
but it’s the toxins you can’t see that could be making you sick.

The Problem
Mycotoxin & Mould Exposure
What Are Mycotoxins?
Mycotoxins are toxic chemicals produced by certain moulds & fungi as a by-product of their growth.
They develop when mould grows on damp or water-damaged materials such as GIB board, wood, wallpaper, carpets, or insulation.
They can't be detected by standard air sampling or spore trap tests.

Unlike mould spores, mycotoxins are invisible & odourless. They are microscopic & inhalable.
Symptoms That Could Point to Mycotoxin Exposure
-
Chronic fatigue or exhaustion
-
Unexplained allergies or breathing issues
-
Feeling unwell at home, but better elsewhere
-
Dizziness, confusion, brain fog
-
Skin irritation or rashes
-
Headaches, nausea, mood changes
-
Recurrent respiratory infections

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
We provide New Zealanders with the most accurate, reliable & affordable environmental testing services to minimise exposure to inhalable mycotoxins & other pollutants in our indoor environments, ensuring the safety of you & your family.
We are committed to redefining how buildings are assessed & how hidden mould, airborne contaminants and environmental health risks are managed.
That's why we offer independent, non-conflicted testing. Our services don't include remediation, so our only focus is accurate assessment. Every report is clear & easy to understand, giving you definitive answers on whether your environment is safe or unsafe.

Why Standard Mould Tests aren't Enough
In New Zealand, most professionals still use spore-trap air testing, but mould species alone can’t reveal if harmful mycotoxins are present.
Spore trap air sampling, while useful in certain cases, it:

-
Only captures 5–10 minutes of air
-
Doesn’t detect mycotoxins
-
Can’t tell if spores are dead or alive
-
Doesn’t confirm successful remediation

MYKES goes beyond conventional testing. We combine:

-
Airborne and surface mycotoxin testing
-
Thermal imaging, moisture mapping
-
Building & Occupant Exposure History
-
Particle counting, VOC analysis, Carbon Dioxide & Carbon Monoxide testing
